10 years, 5 months, and over 200 issues of Amazing Spider-Man, my time at Graham Crackers Comics has come to an end. I never thought I’d be the comic book guy let alone run a store for a decade. It’s been the best decade of my life. Signings, comic conventions, Top Dogs videos, basement comedy shows (check out my previous article about Rad which will continue to have a home at out Andersonville location), Free Comic Book Days, and everything else in between. It’s now time for Earthboy Jacobus, purveyor of the Top Dogs and your friendly neighborhood Comic Book Store manager, Jakeview to log out, but first one last sappy article about the things I love about what we do here at Graham Crackers Comics.
Graham Crackers is where I fell in love with Independent comics, where I became more than just a Marvel Spider-Man fan and fell in love with deeper cut characters like the New Gods, and the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. Working here showed me you should branch out more with your pull list and grab a new Indy book that looks cool based on its cover cause you never know, that one issue may grab your attention in a big way (looking at you Birthright from Image Comics). Working here also spoiled me though, now that I’m moving out of state, I won’t have access to a comic book chain that can order books from store to store specifically for their customers. But that’s the beauty of GCC, more than your average comic book shop. I’ve made lifelong friends here, customers and co-workers and memories that I’ll cherish forever. As the industry has changed and grown with it’s own ebbs and flows, so have I. I started here right after college, a young guy with a few boxes of comics, and now I’m married and a father with a bright future ahead of me. If you’re a Lakeview customer and reading this thinking, you’ll miss me, just know I’ll miss you and my old store even more. Jakeview out.
