Looking Forward To The Stories Of A New Year By Daniel Seib

The end of the year is swiftly approaching and all the brand-new possibilities of the days to come are at our doorstep. That means sweet, sweet, new comics on the horizon. Now we may not know all that is to come for the whole year, but we at least have a good idea how it is going to start. I want to dive into just a few favorites that have me excited for the new year of comics.

Now this first book starts on the 28th of December but I’m still excited about it. Star Wars The High Republic: The Blade, is the story of Jedi Porter Engle, one of the coolest Jedi of the High Republic. Set hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga this story tells of the struggles Porter in his younger days. Anyone reading and enjoying all the vast wealth of stories in the High Republic era of the Star Wars Universe is going to want to put this on their subscription.

After a long delay, due to personal reasons from artist Doug Mahnke, the team up of Doug and Jeff Lemire is coming to fruition. Swamp Thing Green Hell issue one was a favorite read of 2021. Hearing that DC is going to complete the story this February and March and even do a reprint of number one (for those who missed it) in January has me very excited. Seeing Alec Holland take on a creature made by the parliaments of the Green, the Red, and the Rot that’s bent on clearing out humanity? What’s not to like?

Also starting in January, that should be an automatic add to any TMNT fans subscription, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin The Lost Years. Kevin Eastman and team are back to give us more awesome story with Michelangelo and those years of exploration after the tragic events that caused him to leave New York. What did he learn? What did he see? What epic adventures did he have? I absolutely adored The Last Ronin and can’t wait to go even further into that world.

Coming out later in March is X-O Manowar: Unconquered. Its X-O’s 30th anniversary and he’s celebrating with a new story and some amazing art. Liam Sharp is lending his brush to what should be an awesome sci-fi superhero story. A potentially epic tale of quite an epic person. Aric of Dacia (X-O Manowar) was a Visigoth of the 5th century that found himself abducted by aliens and found himself partnered with a sentient suit of armor. If you’re an old fan or new to the character this should be a feast for the eyes.

Then finally, and the most heartwarming of all, is Its Jeff! The loveable scamp Jeff the Landshark is bounding out of his digital format and on to ink and paper. Jeff first appeared in West Coast Avengers by the hand of Kelly Thompson and has been warming hearts ever since. Jeff brings nothing but joy and cuddly delight. Do not let this one pass you by.

These are just some of the great titles that will be gracing our walls. There will be other great comics but these are just some of my favorites that have me excited. If you are looking forward to any of these, be sure to preorder them for yourselves or add them to your subscription. These are just my opinions. So be sure to ask at your local Graham Crackers staff members what they’re looking forward to as well. I’ll bet they’ll turn you on to some great books.
