Skybound by Chris R. – Graham Crackers Comics

Skybound by Chris R.

This year marks my 10th anniversary working at Graham Crackers. This year also happens to mark the 10th anniversary of Skybound Entertainment. Coincidence? Yea, probably!

Over the past decade, there’s been few studios that – in my opinion – have published as many top notch comics, shows, and video games as Skybound has. It’s almost an unfair competition. From all-time must-read classics like Walking Dead and Invincible, to newer titles like Oblivion Song and Reaver, Skybound has continuously demonstrated their attention to quality and dedication to fans.

I could spend a long time talking about Skybound, what they have been doing, and what they stand for. How they have taken the core philosophies of Image Comics, expanded upon them, and branched out into TV, cinema, and video games. Instead, I’d like to take my moment on the soapbox to recommend a few titles from Skybound that if you haven’t read, I’d highly recommend. Some of these titles you’ve seen in other articles as recommendations as well, and there’s good reason for that.

Invincible

If you like great storytelling, superheroes, fantastic artwork, and just the most ridiculous villain names, Invincible is required reading. Robert Kirkman has a gift for coming up with and developing superheroes, and during his 144 issues of writing Invincible, he created a universe worth of heroes. If you were to ask me what the best comic book series of all time was, I’d have to answer Invincible.

Brit

If there is one comic book created in 2003 by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore that you should read, it’s probably The Walking Dead. But, if there were two books created in 2003 by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore that you should read, that list would include Brit. I think the real brilliance of this book is in the writing – how many interesting stories can you tell about a guy with invulnerability, and nothing else? It turns out, quite a few.

Super Dinosaur

It’s Jonny Quest with talking Dinosaurs. Robert Kirkman and Jason Howard wanted to create a comic that their kids could read, while adults could enjoy them too. They succeeded. If you have children, this is a great comic book series (and TV show) to get them into comics. If you don’t have children, it’s still a very fun read!

I’ll step off my soapbox now, go out and give something from Skybound a read, if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed that you did!
