Connor K’s Top Five Graphic Novel Recommendations

1. Sandman
The first Non DC or Marvel comic series I truly fell in love with. Gaiman himself is one of my favorite writers hands down. Through his novels or comics I’ve always been a fan of the way he builds his “Gaiman-verse”. Here you go through the story of Dream as he rebuilds his kingdom after being imprisoned for many years. To get back what is rightfully his, he has to fight all sorts of Gods and Deities.

2. Descender
Science fiction has always been a top genre in my eyes and this book is a perfect science fiction story. You follow a companion android named Tim-21 who was abandoned on a mining colony long ago. He wakes up in a universe where robots and androids are being persecuted after world sized robots called “The Harvesters” attack and destroy a lot of life in the universe. It is a wonderfully written story by Jeff Lemire (another big favorite of mine) and drawn in beautiful water colors by Dustin Nguyen.

3. Batman The Long Halloween
My personal favorite Batman story. Wonderfully written by Jeph Loeb and with classic Batman art by Tim Sale. The epitome of why Batman is the greatest comics detective. You follow Batman as he tracks down a serial killer who only kills on holidays. During his investigation he has to go through many of his rogues gallery to find his answer, with many a fan favorite showing up during this huge 14 issue epic.

4. Blackest Night
The comic that solidified Green Lantern as one of my favorite super heroes of all time. Green Lantern and the rest of the GL Corps must team up with the corps and set aside their differences to fight their biggest threat so far. The Black Hand has been given the power of the Black Ring and has the ability to return the dead back to life. Seemingly invincible it’ll take more than just the Green Lanterns to defeat to defeat this threat. Written by my favorite GL writer Geoff Johns and drawn by Ivan Reis and Oclair Albert, this is a must read for any GL fan.

5. Immortal Hulk
The newest book on my list but definitely worth checking out, The Immortal Hulk is to me the perfect Hulk story. Al Ewing gives a wonderfully terrifying story of a Bruce Banner/Hulk brought back from the dead, during the day he his Bruce Banner and at night he is… THE IMMORTAL HULK! No matter what happens to Bruce during the day he will always come back as the Hulk and with a vengeance. For anyone looking for a good Hulk book as well as just a wonderful read. Currently still ongoing and my favorite Marvel comic going on right now.

CONNOR KRIEGER
The store manager at the not so normal Normal, IL location. Loves long walks on the beach, and singing in the rain. Wait nevermind, wrong bio… Loves to read most things and can talk shop all day long! Just come on in and ask away!
