Reviews for the Week of 11/22/17

DOOMSDAY CLOCK #1     DC COMICS

Ok, lets get this over with. With all the hype this title has been generating, it is a title that screams to be reviewed. On the one hand, this is off to a good start. Ozymandias’s big plan has gone totally sour and his quest to create a united society has completely failed. Johns’s story covers enough ground to get us started. With an all new Rorschach on the payroll, Ozymandia is on a new crusade to save the world from total nuclear war. The concepts are all there and Gary Frank’s art has a lot in common with the original series. My question is why Superman is in it? While I await to see how this multi earth crossover is going to continue, I question why this couldn’t have been  simply been a Watchmen sequel? Need more to be fully convinced. I give it a 7 out of 10.

IMAGINARY FIENDS #1     DC Comics

.Tim Seely’s newest opus is a strange one indeed. As he shows us that not all imaginary friends are good for our health. The twisted relationship between Melba and Polly is warped at best. With a sort of Hellraiser meets X-files vibe going for it, it actually manages to keep one’s interest going. And with artist Stephen Molnar art making a perfect fit for the subject matter. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.

DOCTOR RADAR #1     STATIX PRESS

An amazingly nostalgic look back at the pulps when villians were possibly heroes and vice versa. Taking the torch from such characters such as Dr. Phibes and Fantomas, Doctor Radar’s art comes straight out of the Cabinet of Dr, Calagari.  And with a plan to rule the world at his finger tips, you really can’t go wrong with this new title. Definitely worth a look see. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS #1     DISNEY cOMICS

80 years of Disney’s Snow White is celebrated wonderfully in this one shot. Regis Maine’s story is a spot on adaptation of the movie. And Santiago Barreria’s art is superb! A book to definitely buy your daughter or that special Disney fan! I give it 10 out of 10 Grahams.
