Astro City Samaritan Special #1 (2006)

Astro City Samaritan Special #1 (2006)

$5.00
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
Written by Kurt Busiek, art by Brent Anderson, cover by Alex Ross.

Revealing the long-awaited story of Samaritan's greatest enemy: Infidel! In this special bridging the gap between chapters of the epic Dark Age saga, witness centuries of conflict -- featuring weird science, manipulation of time on a vast scale, the Black Plague, Pompeii and more -- all in the space of one night, and one fateful dinner. It's Samaritan's first solo special; and the story of one brilliant, tormented man whose will is strong enough to shatter the world. Over and over again, if necessary.
BONUS REVIEW by DAL BUSH
Hey, a new Astro City! Isn't a little late for the Vernal Equinox? Well, it's probaly early for the next one. Either way, if you can shake the cobwebs from your memory, you'll remember that Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson's Astro City issues are always a great read with fresh takes on classic superhero concepts. Except "The Dark Age" series. Or "Tarnished Angel".
That blew.
But this one doesn't! It's done-in-one, so there's no six-month wait to conclude it, and it's a great intro to Samaritan's nemesis Infidel. A fun take on the Dr. Doom/Reed Richards style adversaries. If you've never tried Astro City
a)that's dumb and
b)be less dumb by trying this issue!
I give this issue 8 Grahams out of 10.
