Yes, you read it right! NUMBER FREAKING NINE! You see, patience is a virtue. For those of you poor unwashed masses that don't remember reading issue #8, that's because if you were lucky enough to read it, you read it in December friggin' 2008! That's right! Over 3 years to get the next installment of this classic tale of 1940 heroes/heroines in modern day! And you thought it was a long time for a Star Wars sequel! The great part about this is that Marvel pretends that in real world time the years 2009, 2010, and 2011 didn't exist. That's right this is your very own "Bobby Ewing in the Shower" moment. Enjoy it, I know there were parts of that time frame, I could have done without. In the meantime, our time-lost heroes are still coming to terms with a future that they are having a hard time fitting in to. Straczynski's writing is as fun and compelling as ever as he picks up the storyline right where he left off. And Chris Weston's artwork is a true gem. The main problem I over heard repeatedly as I hungrily scooped up my copy was that readers were confused by the horrible publishing delay. I myself find it hard to explain what could delay the final four issues of a twelve issue mini-series for over 3 years. The trick here is not to suffer through the explanation but to do as Marvel has and simply ignore it. That's right ignore it. Can't remember what happened in issues #1-8? Hit the back issue bins, pick up the collected trade. Hell, read about it on line. The point is READ IT! Great Story, Wonderful Artwork, Intriguing Characters! What more do you want! And there is an added incentive here. We as a comic book reading nation can rise up and show the powers that be that we deserve to have our storylines finished. Remember All-Star Batman and Robin! How many of you are still waiting for that one?! Hope reigns eternal!
