'THE BLACK VAULT' part eight! Harley Quinn goes sane! The prisoners and staff of Belle Reve Penitentiary have succumbed to the devastating effects of General Zod's Black Vault, rendering them all insane. But it has the opposite effect on Harley, who must fight her way through a crazed Suicide Squad-with the help of the Enchantress-to stop Zod from waking and conquering the world. No pressure, right? And in a bonus backup story, learn how super-villains are conscripted into the Suicide Squad! The unlucky Killer Frost is about to find out when she arrives for her first day at Belle Reve. Her story continues from this month's single issue of SUICIDE SQUAD directly into JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD #1!
Date Available: 12/14/2016

Being a big fan of former Suicide Squad incarnations, I had hoped to get into this version. Sadly, I cannot. I liked the movie but this book seems to suffer from the 2 worst aspects of the movie. First, is that for the most part, the villains and problems that the team faces are all homegrown. Whether it be snatching General Zod or fighting off the Enchantress, these evils are all homegrown. Basically, its the Suicide Squad fighting off the Suicide Squad. Second, the Squad is dealing with threats that are totally outside their scope. General Zod!?? Really? And of course we have the problem of the team choices. I realize we want to capitalize on the movie but for an undercover, disavowed government task force, that the American public isn't suppose to know about, they certainly didn't choose from people who could blend. And finally, no one is dying. One of the points of previous incarnations was that somebody gonna die! Boomerang is the only one who has died but now he's back? I realize that due to the movie, this is not a popular opinion but this version is not hitting the mark.

I give it 5 out of 10 Grahams
