It’s just a shame that the powers that be decided to title this “Shadowland Spiderman” in order to sell a few more copies. The more appropriate title would have been Shadowland Shang Chi, as this book is essentially about Shang Chi’s struggle against his dark side when it is brought out by Mr. Negative. Interestingly enough, Spiderman as a character could have been anyone else and arguably should have been. The art is good with a few panels that were worth taking a few seconds to appreciate and while I find Spiderman’s incessant prattling obnoxious and annoying, many enjoy it and he delivers it in spades… admittedly though, some lines were quite humorous. The characterizations were spot on and this was refreshing, with the last line written delivering a “punch” that is a challenging take away. It’s nice to see that at least one character in this event is given some introspection with an eye toward personal growth.
I give it 5 out of 10 Grahams
