While possessing a few genuine “wow” moments, this clergymen was left feeling somewhat unfulfilled. Imagine, watching New Hope in its entirety, enjoying 15 minutes of Empire (pick any 15, they are all great), only to have Luke finally get to Vader in Jedi and have good ol’ Darth decide to throw himself on his own light saber for the explicit reason of we have to wrap this thing up – now. The writing was solid again, barring one notable JJJ panel, and I can’t rave enough about the artist’s growth throughout the series. There are some pages here that are truly laid out beautifully, that being said, I still wondered how it would have turned out had they gone with grittier art and a darker palette overall. Shadowland has inspired me in one way though, I have an idea to pitch to Lucas if he decides to make Star Wars episode 7. I would call it “Lando Calrissian: Smuggler without Fear!” Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
