Punisher #1 (2014)

VERY FINE/NEAR MINT

For years, The Punisher has waged a war on crime in New York City with an array of very large guns, but a lead on a major source of drugs, weapons, and more has set his many sights due west. NOW! Frank Castle's in the City of Angels, looking to give the devil his due. Things aren't all they appear, though, with a highly trained military hit squad hot on Frank's tail. Caught between a posse of Punisher predators and targets of his own one-man-war, Frank's manifest destiny may be a shallow grave!

BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

The Punisher is on the west coast. The Punisher has counter banter in a diner. The Punisher is friends with law enforcement and military personal who probably know who he is and are helping him anyway. The Punisher is swimming, both physically and metaphorically. He lets us know this by telling us he's swimming. Featuring the Howling Commandos as well. Does this review seem bland? It accurately represents the book then. It was a bold move on Marvel's part to make Frank less engaging than he's been in the past in almost anything. The art by Mitch Gerads reminded me what Goran Parlov would like like if you removed the personality from his work. With the Punisher AND Hawkeye #2 on the west coast, is there some sort of commentary going on about DC's recent relocation? That things involving the west coast are blander than those same things in NY? Say 'west coast' three times. It's more fun than this issue.

I give it 4 out of 10 Grahams
