VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Shaun Simon (A) Tyler Jenkins (CA) Conor Nolan
Most people take drugs to escape reality. Neverboy, a former imaginary friend, does the opposite. He's found a loophole that allows him to stay in the real world. As long as he stays medicated, everything's perfect. But when the drugs wear off and reality fades, the forces that guard the borders between the real and the imaginary will be ready to drag him back to where he belongs.

Never Boy starts in a realistic environment, with a guy filling out a bogus medical form to get drugs... for his son. But towards the end the world starts to fall apart and swirls of color come pouring into the dark corners of the panels. It get's... weird. Simon's story is really vague, but also intriguing. Jenkins' art is fluid and very well polished, and when the drugs kick in, they really kick in. Never Boy is mysterious and intriguing, and seemed to have dragged me in. I'll definitely be picking up the second issue, as the existence of Never Boy - the main character - completely confounds me.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
