VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Mike Mignola (A) Ben Stenbeck (CA) Mike Mignola Hellboy's immortal foe! Sent to kill Hellboy by the Baba Yaga in Darkness Calls, Koshchei the Deathless hinted at a long and tragic life before being enslaved to the Russian witch. Now Koshchei relives every horrible act on his road to immortality and beyond, with none other than Hellboy himself-in Hell. Mignola returns to Hell and to the bizarre folklore that's filled some of his greatest books, reuniting with one of his favorite collaborators, Ben Stenbeck (Frankenstein Underground, Witchfinder: In The Service of Angels, Baltimore). Date Available: 01/10/2018
BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy
Sometimes the '...from the pages of Hellboy' books that Dark Horse publish have a tertiary connection at best. This one features an opening battle with Hellboy, the Baba Yaga, and her chicken leg house. If that doesn't make sense to you, Koshchei is one of Hellboy's companions in hell, and they sit down for a drink and a story. The story is one of wonder and violence as a talented solider becomes nigh immortal. Mignola is the solo writer for this book, and it very much feels unfiltered in its weirdness and atrocities. He's got a great artist in Ben Stenbeck. His artwork is very Hellboy friendly, in a familiar but not aping way. If nothing else, you might end up being wary of killing butterflies after this story. I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
