The Goon Once Upon A Hard Time #2 (2015)

The Goon Once Upon A Hard Time #2 (2015)

$3.50
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W/A/CA) Eric Powell
As the Goon patiently waits for the men sent to kill him, he passes the time with a classic book that parallels his descent into a man turned animal. Eric Powell delves into a reflective Goon tale inspired by the work of legendary fantasy author H. G. Wells.
Date Available: 03/04/2015
BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

Eric Powell takes us through the mindset of his mob enforcer turned savior as the Goon waits for men sent to kill him. He's scarcely featured in this issue. Consider it a fine choice. This, instead, is a 18 page issue of Classics Illustrated, and our title is 'The Island of Dr. Moreau'. Powell gives us glorious pencil drawings on gray toned paper, white highlights, black shadows. Nothing more is needed, wanted, or missed. By the time our parable is closed, we know where the Goon's head it at, how it got there, and the terrible fate that awaits him if this is how he spends the rest of his life. With 'Big Man Plans' and the last two arcs of 'The Goon', we're watching Eric Powell become a modern day friend to Will Eisner's most personal works. This issue, surprisingly, is new reader friendly given its content. Take a chance on something old in something new.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
