The question, of course, is whether it was worth the wait.7 years is a long time after all. Jeph Loeb's (Batman: Hush, Commando) 'strength' has always been in drafting a parade of guest stars to prop up his stories, but White is mostly set during WWII and most of Marvel's characters aren't around to randomly eat up pages. That said, Loeb and artist Tim Sale's (Batman vs Predator, Superman: For All Seasons) Color series have always been more interested in more intimate character moments, and while White has plenty of Nazis getting slugged in the jaw, the focus is definitely on the friendship between Cap and Bucky, and their dynamic with Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos. Sale draws our heroes with the stoic profiles and square-jaws of the heroes of yesteryear, with gorgeous colors courtesy of the inimitable Dave Stewart. In all, this was a strong start and I hope the series lives up to this issue.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
