'GODS AND SOLDIERS' PART ONE • Eisner Award winner James Robinson (STARMAN, EARTH 2) returns to MARVEL, uniting with Steve Pugh (ANIMAL MAN, HOTWIRE, GEN-X) to create a unique, modern day take on the INVADERS. • The KREE EMPIRE intends to conquer the universe using a weapon that will grant them an army of NORSE GODS. • It falls to four heroes united by their past-CAPTAIN AMERICA, NAMOR, THE ORIGINAL HUMAN TORCH and the WINTER SOLDIER-who must now face the future and wage war against the Kree to save Earth.

BONUS REVIEW by John "Doc" Schaefer

Thank goodness, it's that time of year. You know, the time of the year when Marvel decides to give us old foggies a book to be excited about. With classic Golden Age comic historian James Robinson at the helm, we gracefully skip over the recent nonsense about androids wanting to take over the world and put good ole Jim Hammond back where he belongs, smack dab in the American Homeland. Issue #1 gives us just enough plot to peak our interest and then gives us a 15 page battle royal that shows that artist Steve Pugh knows what to do with a comic page! Reading the initial sales pitches, I was glad to see the Invaders return but I didn't see the adrenelin filled sugar cupcake with the cherry on top that was going to blow my socks off. So I was bouncing off the walls to find (in the middle of the battle royale!) a flashback (In black and white-ish!) with special guest star (wait for it...) Major Victory! Yep! Stepping out of USA Comics #1 (Aug 1941) everyone's favorite World War II ghost whisperer is taking the fight to the enemy! And for you Thor fans, special guest Hela, goddess of death is here too!

I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
