Punisher Platoon #2

Punisher Platoon #2

$4.50
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Garth Ennis
(A) Goran Parlov, Goran Parlov
By the time the Punisher was born in Vietnam, Frank Castle had already become a dark legend of the battlefield. Stories about him were told in whispers, if at all. Now the legendary Punisher team of Garth Ennis and Goran Parlov (PUNISHER MAX, FURY MAX) brings the first of those stories to light: the tale of Frank Castle's first command, and his first kill. Don't miss this epic new series! MAX/Parental Advisory
Date Available: 10/25/2017
BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

There are 2 kinds of Punisher books- ones written by Garth Ennis, ones that aren't. The Garth Ennis ones are the best.

Within those categories, there is a sub-set for the Ennis issues- those written with a satirical edge that makes the atrocities hilarious, or those written to show just how awful those atrocities would be.

The ones in that latter category always include the Vietnam aspect of Frank's life. This is one of those stories, a companion piece to 'Born'.

There were almost no shocks or surprises in the first issue. In many ways, almost nothing happened, as the members of Frank's first platoon recall their experiences when he took over as their LT. This issue builds on that, and when things take a turn, we see that Frank Castle was ready to adapt to whatever was thrown at him. That's true of the things that eradicate humanity, both inside a person, and off the face of the earth.

I guess that means almost all aspects to Punisher stories have 2 sub-sets, and they seem to be more awful each time they get smaller. If you missed this series first issue and have even a casual interest in the Punisher, pick this up.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
