DYNAMO 5
#1
(reviewed by Tom Seymore, LP manager)
Captain Dynamo was a great hero in the Image universe. With his five diferent super powers he battled crime tirelessly. After his death his wife finds his "little black book" and discovers that her husband was a super sleaz-ball that fatherd five illigitimate children. Each of his children developed one of their fathers super powers and with the city being unprotected they band together to form the Dynamo 5! Jay Faerber(Noble Causes)has given us five very different and intersting characters and we get to know the basics about them within the first few pages. My favorite, the dumb football player with telepathy. With strong Terry Dodsen-esqu art I think this might actually be one of those rare Image titles that I could get in to for an extended period of time. If you like families, relationships, action, and some laughs sprinkled in this one is worth checking out. ![]() I GIVE IT 7 out of 10 GRAHAMS ____________________________________________________ MARVEL ZOMBIES AOD #1 (reviewed by Dal Bush, NP manager) Yikes. A scary comic from Marvel/Dynamite/Satan, but not how they mean for it to be (well, except Satan): not scary-scary or scary-good or scary-funny or scary-weird but SCARY-BAD. Marvel's clearly asleep at the wheel as they take a powerhouse franchise and give it over to John "House of M: Fantastic Four" Layman to write. Yeah, "House of M: Fantastic Four". It's that bad. While the art is inoffensive and Greg Land-lite, the writing might make you illiterate, or wish you were. If you absolutely MUST read a Marvel Zombie comic before the more-promising Kirkman/Phillips one-shot ships in May... you know what? No. Still don't. ![]() I GIVE IT 3 out of 10 GRAHAMS ____________________________________________________ FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (TV show reviewed by guest reviewer Entertainment Weekly)
What's happening on network TV's best drama? The Taylors have
an uninvited guest, Smash's girlfriend goes off her meds, and Jason and Lyla are
on the skids. But none of that really matters, because even if this were an
episode about football drills, it'd still be the best-acted, most authentic hour
out there. Still, you're not watching. What are you missing? Brilliant arcs on
Alzheimer's, sexual betrayal, and racism, plus Emmy-worthy turns by series
regulars Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, and Zach Gilford. It's time to get in
the game, folks. .![]() I GIVE IT 9 out of 10 GRAHAMS ____________________________________________________ ONSLAUGHT REBORN #3 (reviewed by Jimmy Hayes, WT manager) What a weird comic. Iron Man is not a chode, Thor is not a clone, super heroes wear costumes, and Captain America does NOT surrender. Remember when you were a kid and comics were full of dialogue AND action? This is kind of like that. I don't hate Liefeld like Brian Fisher and the rest of the Liberal Media. I also don't love him in an unhealthy way like Robert Kirkman does. Honestly, in my opinion, this was just a really fun comic to read.
Tons of guest stars and surprising twists!

THE SPIRIT MOVIE
directed by FRANK MILLER "We're working on the script right now," says Miller of The Spirit. "We've got a good strong story to work with, and we're hoping to be in production either spring or fall [2006]." While it's no secret that the project will be utilizing the same digital background technology used on Sin City and 300, rumor has it that Miller plans on using actual illustrated panels taken directly from the Eisner comics. "No, we'll be more subtle than that," debunks Miller, "but not much. It'll be very faithful to the books. If you aren't reading THE SPIRIT comic by Darwyn Cooke - you are MISSING OUT. Heck if you never read WILL EISNER'S SPIRIT - you are really MISSING OUT. |
