c2e2 2011 recap
March 18th, 19th & 20th 2011...
We're all still getting
settled back in at the stores after this past weekends
fantastic Chicago Comic Convention!
Here's a
quick recap looking back at this years show for those of you
that couldn't make it:
Reed Exhibitions puts together a FIRST
CLASS comic convention! The show not only looked
great, but was run smoothly. Plus they added FREE
shuttle bus service from the city to the show (as well as
directly from our store to the show). Hard to beat
that convenience!
This year they moved the show to one of the MAIN HALLS at
McCormick place. The upside was it was easy to access
from the parking lot, and all the panels were much closer to
the main hall. Downside was that it didn't have glass
walls like last years venue that felt so bright & open.
Some top notch comic talent & entertainment guests were there
to meet, panels were well run and interesting to attend.
Deputy Shane (Jon Bernthal) from TV's Walking Dead came by
our above booth and bought a Preacher trade from us (that's
some good taste you've got there!). Claudio
Sanchez from rock group Coheed & Cambria came by as well,
and you won't find a nicer guy out there! Took time
for every fan, posed for photos, incredibly gracious guy for
someone as famous as he is! That's Jeff (Scott
Krinsky) from TV's CHUCK below, the entire cast of CHUCK
that came out for the show were all really nice and
accommodating stars.
Dealers room selection while a bit smaller than last years
had an amazing array of product to choose from. Quite
an eclectic mix of exhibitors didn't give you many options
if you were only interested in one thing - but did give you
a chance to see product you normally never see.
Publishers: mixed bag here. Lots of publishers, and
some really sharp looking booths (Archaia does an amazing
job each year). Unfortunately a few publishers, most
notably Dark Horse while having an impressive booth didn't
bring any COMICS to a COMIC CONVENTION?!?
Marvel Comics had a GIGANTIC THOR
Hammer on display that was the hit of the show - people were
constantly posing by this massive replica and taking photos.
Graham Crackers Comics was fortunate enough to not only get
it from them at the end of the show, but we were able to
liberate an extra BOX TRUCK to transport it to the store.
If you get a chance, drop by and check this thing out - it's
staggering to see in person.
Several customers asked if this show was
better than the long running CHICAGO COMICON (formerly
Wizard World) - and really that question can only be
answered by knowing what it is YOU want out of a comic
convention. As I mentioned Reed does an amazing job
running the show, it's right in the heart of Chicago at the
McCormick place and if a show in the city is what you're
hearts after and you love browsing all the publishers booths
- then this is the show for you!
If you prefer to stay in the suburbs, Rosemont to be specific
and the name of your game is hunting down comic books then
Wizard World should be your first choice.
But honestly, both shows are so different, located so far apart from each
other not only in miles but also when they occur that
there's no reason you can't attend and enjoy both
conventions!
If you skipped it this year we hope to see you next year -
you'll be glad you came!
